Dumfries House coach trip ....
26th
September 2018 (Wednesday)
.... 05.15 I’m ready for the
Dumfries
House coach tour: Myra is picking me up at 05.40, then Geoff
along at Elie, to board the coach at 07.00 (Dunfermline). Don’t know when we’ll arrive back home, but
I should imagine it will be early evening time.
Myra at Dumfries House (Tour entrance) |
It’s
dark .... and windy.
22.00 Dumfries House
is one fantastic place and well worth visiting .... but my word .... it has
been a long day. Myra and I left
Earlsferry at 05.50, arriving at Dunfermline Bus Station at 06.55. The coach left Dunfermline on time, making
for Edinburgh, Bathgate, and finally Glasgow to pick up passengers. The traffic at the cities, Edinburgh and Glasgow, delayed us and we arrived at
Dumfries House late, but in time to join the second tour of the morning.
The 'House' tour lasts for one hour, and it is one interesting hour; the tour guides know ‘their’ Dumfries House,
and you get caught up in their enthusiasm. Loved every minute of the tour. Might even have fallen in love with our guide. The tour was followed by a light, but
filling lunch of tomato soup, followed by tea/coffee with
sandwiches and a goodie.
Troon ... on a dull day. |
The
only thing to spoil our trip was the weather:
it was either raining, or soon going to be raining, or had been raining
and was going to start raining again.... soon! So most of the photographs I got today were
taken from the coach. The only ‘real’
photo was the one of Myra outside the Tour Entrance to the House.... and it was
starting to rain. The stick Myra is
holding is mine. That said I am happy
with the photographs I have as a memory of today’s trip.
It
was a long journey; the coach left
Dunfermline at 07.00.... and arrived back at Dunfermline at 19.00 .... adding
two hours on to that for the journey from Earlsferry to Dunfermline makes it 14
hours; most of it sitting on the bus. Oh
... I nearly forgot Troon, where we stopped for a walk about on the way
home. Troon looked a bit neglected and
run down today .... the weather was dry (after rain), but overcast, which
didn’t
help. Myra and I had a coffee in a
really nice restaurant place; this was the
highlight of out Troon visit. Actually I
believe that Troon could be a lively place on a bonnie day.
A touch of blue in the sky on the way home .... Princes Street, Edinburgh. |
It
may have been a ‘long day’ but it was worth it to see all that Chippendale...
one particular Chippendale item being worth millions of pounds. Yes it was well worth it. Click on the link and have a browse; I’m sure you will enjoy it.
