Butterfly bonanza ....

31st August   2018 (Friday) .... 20.00     I am a silly boy;   I forgot to update ‘The Hutte’ this morning.     Apologies for that .... you may smack my hand;   ..... but not Our beach this morning .... too hard.... remember that I am a delicate boy. This has been an eventful day:   Jim had an appointment with the Doctor this morning, and is now in ‘dry dock’ with low BP, and is having to take it easy for a few days.     An NHS ‘Home Hospital Team’ have checked him out and will do so for the next few days:   this means missing his Harbour House coffee of a morning.    Luckily Myra is a good Nurse .... and makes good coffee.     There was only Geoff, Dod and myself at Harbour House for coffee this morning. Dod sorted out the problem with the shed and the wall:    there was a earthquake in the Borders about three years ago... all of 1.9 on the Richter scale.... and this would move the shed closer to the wall.     Jings....   and there was me worrying that I might have put o

Painting day ....

Image
30th August 2018 (Thursday) .... 08.30      It’s a good day for painting the shed .... we have a blue sky with a light westerly breeze;   a perfect drying day.    The shed.   Painting will be like having a ‘rest’ day, spells of painting (short) mixed with Soduko’s and tea breaks (long) in the Hutte.     Of course I will take ‘time out’ for the paper/Harbour House coffee break.... and the ‘Drop in Cafe’ in the afternoon.    Yes this has the makings of a serene kind of day. 14.00      I’ve done well with the shed painting, and the tea drinking;      Soduko’s?... slow.    It has clouded over so I’ve stopped painting;   what I have already done is dry, so even if we do get a shower it won’t be washed off .     Luckily the clouding over has coincided with me going  to the ‘Drop in Cafe’, and the shower clouds are to pass over in a couple of hours;   I should get some more painting done when I get back from the ‘Cafe’.      20.00     The ‘Cafe was quiet at first, but filled up b

'Georgie' Vestey... London artist.

29th August 2018 (Wednesday) .... 08.00     There doesn’t appear to have Georgie Vestey ... London artist. been any overnight rain:   I don’t know if this means it has yet to arrive, or if it has missed us altogether.... probably, and hopefully, the latter.    At present we have ‘wall to wall’ sunshine, but there is a cool Northwest wind.... which means I should get some of the shed painted today, once the sun warms up the air.     I’m   a delicate boy. 20.00     It was cool went I went for a walk up to Chapel Green this morning.... but considerably warmer sitting on The Boss’s seat sheltered from the wind.     Sitting there, mulling over life in general I was glad to be brought out of my daydream by a few walkers bumbling there way round the Chapel Green walk.     One couple came from Alnwick (pronounced “Annick”).... definitely not “Alllnwick”.... and most definitely not when speaking to a couple of “Annickers”.       While I was chatting to the “Annickers”, Georgie Vestey

Waiting for sunny intervals ....

Image
28th August 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.30     The weather forecast for Elie and Earlsferry is ‘overcast with sunny intervals’:   we have the ‘overcast’,   (it’s heavily A 'sunny interval' ..... overcast) ... we now need the ‘sunny intervals’;    in fact one would do,   as in the whole day long.     I do intend painting the shed, at least a bit of it, but I’ll wait for the sunny interval. 12.00      So far the ‘sunny interval’ has been the one that I got a picture of... and it didn’t last long.     I’ve been up for the paper, and had coffee with Myra, Jim and Geoff, but the paint tin remains unopened.... it's quite cold just now.    The sky is beginning to brighten so I might get some painting done after lunch. The Ferry beach. 22.00    The weather did brighten up in the afternoon, but not enough for me to risk painting.    However I did enjoy taking some family photographs;   and I‘m very pleased with the results.    All I have to do is sort them out, deleting

Unveiling of Interpretation Boards .....

Image
27th August 2018 (Monday) .... 08.30     There’s a lot of cloud about but also a good mix of blue patches, giving us spells of sunshine;     and, with a brisk Elizabeth Riches MBE unveiling the first board at Chapel Green. westerly wind, it is cool.     I’ve been for the paper, and milk;  the milk being a vital ingredient with my Weetabix.     I’ll have a cuppa, then organise the camera for a daunder round Chapel Green at the unveiling ceremony. 20.30      Not only has this been a bonnie day, it has also been an exciting one.     It’s not often that I have the chance to photograph events, but the unveiling of the Interpretation Boards by Elizabeth Riches MBE certainly remedied that:   it was perfect:   captive’ models’ all over the place, and plenty of action.... oh... and chat.     The weather was just right, sunny, with a nice wind to get action shots of   Elizabeth doing the unveiling.    After the Chapel Green unveiling we had a very enjoyable buffet lunch in the Pavilion

Wall to wall dreich ....

26th August (Sunday) .... 08.45     The sky was overcast when I first looked out 26th August 2014. at 06.30, but it didn’t start to rain until 08.00:   it is now ‘dreich’.     Light rain on an east wind.... therefore not very warm.... and probably with us for most of the day.      I am feeling rather lively this morning .... in spite of the weather;   but I’ll have to curb my liveliness and work on the computer until later in the afternoon when the weather should improve. 17.00     ... “later in the afternoon”....   and it is still dreich, although there has been times when the sky brightened;   we even had a glimpse of a watery sun at one time.     It certainly hasn’t been a day for bumbling about outside .... at least not so far:    I suppose it it could brighten up by sunset time.      At the moment it looks like the sun is never going to be seen again! 26th August 2014 I’ve had a day working on the computer, .... and watching the Pope in Ireland.    The weather in I

Wall to wall happiness ...

25th August 2018 (Saturday) .... 08.30     It’s a cracker o’ a mornin’..... there are a few cotton wool clouds bumbling their way southeast .... a lovely morning 'Sooper Buggy' moored up in Elie High Street. for doing things.     The garden is a bit wet for working but the shed looks dry and I’m thinking of getting the paint out.      The forecast is ‘dry’ for today, with cloud coming in later:     Rain tomorrow. 20.30      My word .... ‘The Boy’ is a tired boy tonight.     My day began with a trip up to Elie to get a paper, having morning coffee in Harbour House, then home via Balbuthie Loan and Kinneuchar.     Back at Ivy I decided to finish off lopping the ivy before lunch;   which job was successfully completed.    ( I have been taking photographs).        After lunch I gathered all the ivy onto a dust sheet and took it along to the skip at Pittenweem.     The ‘broon’ bucket will cope with all the rest of the gardening rubbish;   it is emptied every fortnight.

Bright and breezy ....

24th August 2018 (Friday) .... 08.30     Nice morning, washing machine The Ferry beach this morning. ‘on’.... and .... I’m feeling ‘bright eyed and bushy tailed’.        It’s a braw drying day, but....   showers are forecast for later.     The washing will be dry long before ‘later’.       Must ‘go’ .... got some frolicking to do. 14.00      There are some heavy showers around but we have missed them ... so far.     The washing I hung out this morning is dry.... a will be ironed this evening when I’m watching something on the tele.     I had morning coffee in Harbour House, with Myra, Jim and Geoff, bought, and posted, a birthday card for Janice.... then had ‘50’ in the Hutte.      I’m about to have a cuppa then I’ll cut the last of the ivy.     Getting rid of it (the ivy) isn’t going to be hard.... a load of it went out in the ‘broon’ bucket this morning, and another load is ...er ... dog tired dog? already in the ‘broon’ bucket, so I should have only one load to take   to

Breezy and cool ... so is the weather

23rd August 2018 (Thursday) .... 08.00     The sky is heavily overcast, in Dysart harbour. fact it looks like we could have some spits and spots of rain;     and it is definitely cooler:      not the bonniest of mornings, but the afternoon is to be brighter.       I’ll finish pruning the ivy in the afternoon, and fill up the 'broon' bucket with ivy cuttings. 20.30    Well the afternoon was brighter.... in between the prolonged heavy showers.    The evening is bonnie though, but there is a cool wind;  and I have been down to the beach, in fact I’m not long back from the beach.    It was busy with holiday makers out for an evening walk .... wrapped up holiday makers. Jim and I went to Kirkcaldy in the morning;  we both wanted stuff from ‘PC World’ in the Fife Central Retail Park.    I had a good browse, and saw plenty stuff that I’d like, but eventually settled for what I’d gone along there for in the first place ..... DVD’s to back up my photographs onto.    From ‘PC

Mmmmmm ... it's wet

22nd August 2018 (Wednesday) ... 08.00       We have a grey and wet start to Elie harbour - 1982. the day, but it should brighten up by mid morning;   it’s a nice morning for having a haircut.... and doing a spot of shopping.       The beach? .....   I’ll go to the beach   until after lunch, by which time it should be sunny and warm.      12.00      Haircut and shopping done.... and the rain has cleared away leaving us with ‘sunny spells and humid’...a nice afternoon ahead.     My intention is to have a go with the new loppers (£15), once the ivy has dried up a bit.      I had to contend with two set of road work this morning;    the first immediately to the East of Upper Largo,(the pavement is being renewed), and the other at the Sainsbury’s/B ‘n Q roundabout in Leven (new MacDonald’s).     I didn’t lose too much time, but didn’t get back to Elie until after 11.15 so missed my ‘morning coffee’ at Harbour House.     It’s now lunch time. The beacon - 1986. 20.30       My

Too wet to work ....

21st August 2018 (Tuesday) .... 08.00    A light breeze from the East has After the dreichness of early morning. brought low cloud in from the North Sea, so we have a dreich start to the morning:   however it will brighten up by mid morning when the breeze veers to the West.      I won’t be going to the beach until after mid morning;   and I won’t be doing much in the garden until afternoon.     Hey   ... the ‘dump’ (Re-cycling Depot) is open today, I’ll get rid of the auld tele that’s in the back of the car. 19.30     Jim and I rook ‘SD’ out to Ruddon’s Point for a walk, on what was a bonnie, but muggy, afternoon.     ‘Muggy’ days, humid and warm with nae wind are when ant colonies having their nuptial flight, and, today conditions along the Ruddons Point road   were perfect.     The road, it’s a sandy track, had the nuptial flights from all the local colonies in action at the same time.     Every step we took along that road we stood on excited ants;    you couldn’t help it

Nearly in the mood for working ...

20th August 2018 (Monday) .... 08.30     At the moment the sky is overcast, Ferry Road this afternoon. but we are forecast to have ‘sunny’ spells’ by mid afternoon.     At least it isn’t wet this morning.... and there is only a light south westerly breeze;   it may not be a morning for bumbling about on the beach, but it’s a good one for dustin’ and polishing stuff.     I’ll do the beach in the afternoon.     19.00     I didn’t do the beach in the afternoon;    instead I chose to go up to the Pony Field and the golf course.     It was a bonnie afternoon for a walk.... and .... the golf course was awfie quiet.     The quietness of the golf course surprised me;   it’s normally busy in August.     Anyway I enjoyed a quiet walk round the Pony Field the down the third fairway.     There were golfers(?) dotted around the course but they were few, and far between. Elie granary from the Pony Field. Before going for the walk I began to attack the ‘ivy’ of Ivy Cottage.
