Bright and breezy ....
8th
July 2023 (Saturday) 07.00 .... we have a bright and breezy
start to the'Bold Ventures' at the creels.
day.... it would be really warm but there’s a cooling breeze off
the North Sea so it’s pleasantly warm. Thundery
showers are forecast to move up to our area in the afternoon; at the
moment they are bubbling up around the Midlands (Stoke on Trent).
18.45 It has been a headachy kind of day; however,
although we’ve had a few showers, the nearest thunder was over towards Glasgow
in the afternoon. At the moment there’s
a storm bubbling up around the Solway Firth area: the Yellow Warning is active until midnight
tonight. I won’t be biking this evening.
As
planned I went to Leven to do a shopping, then up to Methil to visit Alice:
Izzy (Alice’s daughter) had dropped into visit ‘Mother’; I managed to overcome
my ‘bashful and retiring’ nature, and was blethering to the girls.... almost as
if I wasn’t a shy boy at all. Izzy and
Alice are going down to the Borders for a few days next week so Izzy had to
dash orf ‘cos she had her case to pack. Karen
(Alice’s daughter) arrived with Alice’s
case which has also to be packed ....but they don’t leave until Tuesday so
‘loads o’ time’. Karen also organised
the replacement of Alice’s gas meter. The meter is in an outside box, which is
fine; the only problem is that you have to lie down on the lawn to read it. All the meters on site are in outside
boxes.... but the dials are on top of the meter and can be read standing up. Alice’s meter is the only one that has to be
read lying down.
Part of 'The Terrace' - Elie.
After
having lunch with Alice I set off for Ivy Cottage; my word the roads were busy I had to ‘floor it’ at to keep up
with the traffic flow.... I was up to 35 mph at one point! After putting the messages away I sat down
to watch Stage 8 of ‘le Tour’. Sadly
Mark Cavendish crashed and had to abandon... having broken a collar bone. It was a simple accident with a horrible
result, but that’s the way of bike racing.
22.00 We never
had any thunder today, but we have had a good spell o’ rain ...and the air has
cleared. I’m in a ‘playful’ mood
again; but it’s bedtime so tomorrow is going to be a play day. ‘Sunny with a gentle breeze’ is the weather
forecast for us tomorrow so I should get out on the bike after the heat of the
day and when the roads are quieter.
