Overcast and damp ....

Image
28th February 2022 (Monday)      08.00 .... Mmmmmm .... we have had some overnight rain, and have an overcast sky this morning.     I hope ‘Spring’ wasn’t a one day season.    Actually this weather (‘drizzle with a fresh breeze’) is to clear away and we should have sunny spells in the afternoon, ;   and tomorrow is going to be another cracker of a day.      In the meantime it’s a day for playing with the computer.... and (maybe) ‘ousework. 18.30    It has been a drab kind ‘o day.  I went out on the bike twice, and both times I encountered spits and spots o’ rain so didn’t hang about.   I was wanted to use up what was left in the bike battery so that I could charge it, and have a full battery for tomorrow.   Tomorrow is going to be a bonnie day.... but probably cold. 21.00    I am well tired tonight, though I wouldn’t say that I’ve done very much.  I did a wee bit of ‘ousework... and did the two runs on the bike, but that’s about it as far as exercise goes.   Jings it’s only 21 years s

Wall to wall blue sky ....

27th February 2022 (Sunday)      09.00 ..... we have a cracker of a start to Sunrise over the East Links. the day.... ‘wall to wall’ blue sky with a brisk breeze orf the SSE;  a beautiful day for doing things.... work and play.   The paper has been picked up, and the harbour visited.    The garden thermometer is showing 4C just now, and should start to rise, now that the sun is higher in the sky; the forecast is for us is ‘sunny with a moderate breeze’.   I plan to go out, on the bike, after my morning coffee break. 11.00    The single bed sheets are on the line, the bottom sections of the front window have been given a ‘quick dicht’ so that I can see oot (and to let light in)... and the bike tyres pumped up.  There’s a rice pudding in the oven and I am finishing orf my coffee before taking a turn out on the bike:  got to be back within an hour and a half...for the rice pudding.   Must ‘go’ slight flap on’ now; it’s ‘playtime’. 15.30    I set off on the bike, planning to go to St Mona

Overcast and breezy ....

26th February 2022 (Saturday)      08.30 .... I expected to be stiff and sore after yesterday’s work efforts, but I’m feeling, surprisingly, good.    I went to the beach at sunrise time:  I knew there was never going to be a visible sunrise, but I love the magical feeling, when I crest the dunes at the bottom of Ferry Wynd and the vista open up before me.... that’s always worth getting up early for.     There is a brisk breeze, and it is forecast to freshen with high tide, but it’s never going to be as windy as what we had a few days ago.  16.30     Mmmmm.... this has been a good ‘rest day’  but watching Scotland lose 17 – 36 at Murrayfield wasn’t very ‘calming’.... however, it was  an entertaining game, and an enjoyable’ way to spend a bit of the afternoon.  England v Wales is on at 16.45.     Time for a walk to the beach... or a cuppa?   Beach then cuppa.  21.30    It’s cold tonight, but the forecast for tomorrow is ‘sunny with a fresh breeze’.     So a nice enough day but it will b

Feeling 'frolicsome' ....

25th February 2022 (Friday)     07.30 .... We have a beautiful morning, in Marjory and Myra, two of the Church walking group. fact the forecast is for us to have ‘sunny intervals with a moderate breeze’ today;  a good drying day, so I have a washing going through.     We had a quiet sunrise, with hardy a cloud in the sky.   I didn’t go to the beach (busy getting the washing machine organised) but I saw it from the front gate.   The ‘plan’ is to go up to Elie mid morrrrrrrrning, to catch the ‘Trinity walkers’ and to hand in a prescription.     The air is cool just now, but the sun will soon warm it up by lunch time, so I’ll get the bike out. 21.00      It’s been a cracker of a Spring like day;   and not nearly as windy as the past few days.    I went to Elie in the morning and finally got photographs of the ‘Kirk walkers’ coming up The Toft, from the seats at the Terrace.    It has been a cracker of a day for walking.... and working. About 20 years ago Maggie decided to plant a bit o

Sleet showers ....

Image
24th February 2022 (Thursday)       09.00 .... the beach would have been the place to be at sunrise time, but the tail end of a heavy shower was passing over at that time;   instead, after an early coffee, I went to the harbour, stopping at the ‘paper shop’ on the way home.     I actually remembered to pick up the paper!    There was wet snow on the car windscreen first thing, and the Lammermuirs are covered in snow;   all the way to St Abb’s Head.    I imagine Largo Law will be snow covered, but I couldn’t see it for a heavy shower that was passing over at the time.    I’ll go to the beach later in the morning.     I had thought of going for a haircut, but that idea fell on stony ground.    The Yellow warnings, for snow showers and lightning, remain active until 18.00 today. 15.00    The idea that fell on stony ground germinated;  I went to Leven to get a haircut.    The thinking behind getting the haircut today was simple;   tomorrow is a better forecast, for doing things.... like

Windy ....

23rd February 2022 (Wednesday)      07.30 .... After a windy night we are going to have a windy day.... with a blustery band of rain passing over later in the morning, turning to blustery showers in the afternoon.   Not a day for the bike.   I’ll come up with a plan over breakfast.    10.00     Right now I’m having breakfast, having made a sudden decision to do a shopping before any rain that might come our way.    For a change of road I decided to go to Sainsbury’s (Leven);   the last time I went to Leven was to get a haircut... a couple of weeks before Christmas.     Since then the 20mph speed limit in Lundin Links has been extended... and there’s a, long overdue, infrastructure for a pedestrian crossing, at Blacketyside;   the ‘electrics’ have still to be wired up, but it shouldn’t be too long before that is operational.     I don’t know what changes I’ll find when I next go to Kinghorn. The wind is F8 out in the Firth, so there will be loads of fresh air on the beach.    I may

Wet and windy ....

22nd February 2022 (Tuesday)     07.30 ....There’s wild squall rattling it’s Kinneuchar Loch. way over just now, so it’s windy and wet.   However, the rain is going to move away to the South east, leaving us with a bright but windy day.... up to F8.   At the moment it is F6 out in the Firth.... and not very pleasant on Ferry Road.    I feel refreshed after a great night’s sleep, and I was looking forward to biking today;   but that’s very doubtful now if the wind, that’s forecast for the main part of the day, happens.    It’s breakfast time. 09.30     The rain has moved away and we have a, ‘bright and sunny with a gusty wind’ day.     I am thinking of going out, but I’m also thinking that the Elie Estate road will be muddy. Its morning coffee time just now, so I’ll make my mind up after that;  and, although a bonnie day, with it being windy, it is not very warm. Elie. 15.30    It’s been a bonnie enough day but my word.... it has turned much colder, with a wintry feel to the wind.

Bright, breezy and cool ....

Image
21st February 2022 (Monday)      08.30 .... It’s a ‘bright and breezy, morning, and the weather forecast is good for the whole day... albeit, breezy and cool... and I’ve been for, and remembered to pick up, the paper;  visited the harbour and Kinneuchar.   There’s a brisk breeze blowin’ and it’s cool when exposed to it. I had a ‘funny’ night last night;   something went up Ferry Road at 02.45 and I didn’t get back to sleep until nearly 04.00.... after doing a crossword and a Soduko.    I’d been up at 02.00 for a ‘comfort break’, and had just fallen asleep.    Oh well.... there’s a good chance of me falling asleep in front of the tele today. 17.00     Nothing will wake me up tonight;    I’ve been out on the bike twice;   on what is a really beautiful day;   it has been 11C in the garden..     The first time I did the ‘tour of the villages’, and would have done Elie Estate but the battery was low.    I went back to Ivy and put the battery on charge..... felling really good after bikin

Windy ....

20th February 2022 (Sunday)     07.00 ..... Mmmmmm .... it’s wet and windy (F6 out in the Firth) just now;   the rain should  move away fairly quickly, leaving us with the wind, which will then dry  up the rain that fell overnight.    We might even get a few sunny spells .... and it isn’t that cold.   I’ll have another cuppa then go for the paper. 08.30    There was one heavy old squally shower just before I went for the paper, but  the sky is looking much friendlier now, though there are plenty shower clouds about .... so the threat of showers is still with us. Congratulations to our curling girls who have won Gold in the Final of the Women’s curling event, beating Japan10 – 3 in the Final.  The game is on the TV now; I saw the last two and a half ends in the middle of the night.  Knowing the result before the watching the whole game will give my nerves a break.!     Of all the medals earned at the Winter Olympics all the cross country skiing events must be, physically, the hard

Bright, and sunny ....

19th February 2022 (Saturday)    12.00 .... My word .... Men’s Curling final made fantastic viewing;  the result wasn’t exactly how I’d have liked it.... but to watch two teams of skilful players, trying to outthink and outplay each other... both teams playing some amazing stones .... was really ‘out of this world’ stuff.   I have no nails left to chew on for the Girls Final tomorrow (at 13.05).    The ‘Boys’ did us proud coming away with their Silver Medal.... and, it was so nearly Gold.  They lost 5 – 4 to Sweden, after an extra end... and an extraordinary match.    We have a gorgeous day here; it’s, cold and there’s frisky breeze blowin’ so there’s wind chill.    I went to the beach first thing.... and might go out again later, but right now I am well ready for food. 18.30      It has been a beautiful day;   and the wind that was forecast for late this afternoon and tonight,   is now forecast to arrive early tomorrow.    I nearly got the bike out today.     I set off for Crail in

Wild and wet ....

18th February 2022 (Friday)     08.00 .... There are places to be this morning... and outside isnae one of them:  my word it’s a wild, wet (sleet) morning.    However I’ve been for the paper, and, guess what;    I didn’t go to the harbour.  There was a squally shower rattling it’s way over when I was up in Elie.   The ‘Master Plan’ is to go out with the camera when the sunny spells arrive :  at the moment the wind is from the Southeast so my sheltered nook will be wide open to wind and rain.    Bring on the ‘sunny spells’!   Computer and kettle? .... both ‘on’.     It’s strange..... but I actually feel frolicsome! 08.30      I have taken a photograph, looking down to the beach from the front gate.... and things are looking brighter already! 16.00    It has been the perfect kind of day for watching Winter Olympics:  especially the curling.   Both Teams, ‘Boys’ and Girls’ are have reached the Finals... and I am a “bag o’ nerves”... I mean “a total, finger nail bitin’ bag o’ nerves” afte

Bright and breezy (the weather) ....

Image
17th February 2022 (Thursday)      09.00 .... major success this morrrrrrrning;   I remembered to stop and get the paper!     It’s a ‘bright breezy (F6) and cold’ start to the day.... and the wind is to be with us all day Mammatus clouds.... yesterday afternoon. so a lot of wind chill.    There was much wind chill at the harbour.    All was well down there.... Stewart arrived so we had a quick chat.    Stewart had to rush off to get Lorraine’s breakfast organised.     I came home via Kinneuchar, which wasn’t clever;   I forgot about the roadworks on the Manse brae.... the temporary lights aren’t the fastest at changing. I have a washing going through;   it should dry in this wind, but I’ll ‘ave to multi-peg it on the line. 11.00   The aforementioned washing is on the line and will be dry in ‘nae time’;  I will be ironing after lunch.    It’s a really bonnie day out, but there is a wintry feel to the air.... and a snow warning (Yellow) for tomorrow, so  I'd better go out in t

Breezy .....

16th February 2022 (Wednesday)       06.30 .... It’s windy... and there’s been overnight rain and we have clouds scuttling over, so the threat of showers is not far away.   I might take a walk to the beach for sunrise.... if it isn’t raining.;  at the moment it’s just two people talking about sport on the tele.... not very interesting.    At last .... the curling is on;  GB v ROC. 15.00      The wind that was forecast  to be with us until evening time, petered out about lunch time and we now have heavy(ish) rain.    Actually the sun is trying hard to break through;   if it does, I might go out on the bike.    No I won’t;   the roads will be wet.    As is my usual habit now, I leave Ivy to go for the paper and end up at the harbour.    At the harbour I suddenly remember that I’ve forgotten the paper so say to myself....   “I’ll get the paper of the way home”.   I then go home by way of Balbuthie and Kinneuchar.    I tell you;   it’s not easy being me.    That’s wrong; it’s easy being

Breezy ....

15th February 2022 (Tuesday)      07.30 .... I was all set to go to the beach but spots of rain started blowing in the wind (F5) so I’ll leave going to the beach until later in the day... sunny intervals are coming our way soon.   We’ve had some rain overnight, and showers are forecast for today, but it should be bonnie day.     15.00   Today has been a ‘bright and breezy’ day.... and it has been slightly cooler than it was yesterday:  too cold and windy for me to go out on the bike.   I’ve had a quiet day ‘in’ so far;  watching the Winter Olympics and  doing stuff on the computer now and again.     I’ll go to the beach in a wee while.... once the tide has gone out a bit. The 15 year old ROC skater was in action today;   there’s no denying it she is graceful..... and I’m glad she was allowed to continue.    It must have been hard, skating with that cloud over her.... at such a young age.    This must raise the question of 'young adults(?)'  competing in the Olympics.   I'

Damp looking ...

14th February 2022 (Monday)    I start by wishing all girls a lovely, and loving, St Valentine’s Day xxx. 07.00    The overnight rain has moved away, fairly recently by the look of the garden;   everything is wet, I can’t see any stars and ‘Blob’ isn’t singing from the top of the Rowan tree.     Having said that, the weather forecast isn’t all doom and gloom;   there is ‘a chance of precipitation’ throughout today, but the cloud is starting to break up, so there will also be sunny spells.       Falkland Hill. 21.30    My mission to pick up Myra from the Lundin Links garage went like clockwork;  we were back in ‘The Ferry’ by 09.30, drinking coffee in No 3. We have had a beautiful day.... and I don’t think had any ‘precipitation’ all day.     And, this surprised me,.... it was warm.     I went out on the bike, suitably wrapped up against the cold, only to find that I had overdone the wrapping up.     I went up to Chapel Green and had a short walk and it was then that I noticed how w
