Warm but breezier ....

17th July 2021 (Saturday)   06.30 ....another hot day ahead, but it is breezier so



the hot air is moving.... like a fan assisted oven:   just now the garden thermometer is at 16C ....and is forecast to get up to 24C in the afternoon.;  it’s going to be breezier so it should feel cool.   There’s a bit of cloud around this morning so between the cloud and the breeze, the air is comfortably cool.   I plan to go to the shops after 09.00, as I have a prescription to pick up.

11.30   It is a beautiful day.... and much more comfortable in the fresh breeze.   I’ve been to Elie to pick up my prescription;  there was a queue at the ‘paper shop’ so I thought I’d do the harbour first then get the paper on the way back:  I don’t have a paper today.

There was much going on at the harbour, and on the golf course so I took a few photographs:  I shall now have a coffee before finding out what time  Stage 20 of le Tour is on the tele;  today stage is a Time Trial.... so not the most exciting viewing;  not until the last half hour anyway.


18.30   26C in the garden today;  I am beginning to like this summer weather.... even though I stay in during the hottest part of the day.  Today I had the penultimate stage of the Tour to keep an eye on.... falling asleep intermittently as I had a migraine (this is good migraine weather) but I did stay awake for the last half hour.

I am now full alert, and I feel like lopping something;   I’ll have a cuppa and hope that the desire to do something, as serious as lopping, will wear off.

21.00    Even though there’s a frisky wind the air is still warm with the temperature sitting at 21C:  that is too hot to do any lopping.    I did a bit of pruning instead:  a single rose heid, that was past its best.   Strenuous I am not keen on now.                                                                                                                                                                         It’s going to be another warm day tomorrow.... ‘light cloud with a gentle breeze’ is the

6th green.

forecast, so the sun might not be as strong as it was today.   I’m thinkin’ I might have a night cap to help me sleep on what is likely to be another hot night.

6th October 2024 (Sunday)    "Happy Golden Wedding Anniversary"  to Brian and Moira". 09.00 .... All the Fife Weather cams are showing overcast skies.   The Anstruther cam looks the bleakest!..... the Lochgelly the least bleak.  The Easterly breeze has brought the weather in from the North Sea.... and  'sunny spells' are not mentioned in the weather forecast, but ... sometimes the sky looks promising!   It's a good day to be inside.  Luckily I, (and all the other guests), are celebrating Brian and Moira's Golden Wedding Anniversary in the Lindsay Room at Kinneuchar Castle. 10.30     It's still raining, but the sky looks promising now and again;  the sun might break though in the afternoon.  I had a walk round the patio in the light rain; very refreshing.    I'm having morrrrrrrrrrrning coffee before I start to get organised for Kinneuchar Castle. 20.30    We had a really pleasant family and f...

Nice morning ....

16th August 2024 (Friday)  08.30 ...It's a lovely morning but a layer of thin cloud is taking the Jackie. edge off the temperature so we have a chilly start to the day;  hopefully the sun will burn off the cloud to give us a sunny and warm(er) day soon.    The Auchnagatt 'troops' are expected to arrive about 10.30:  and I am organised .... and looking forward to seeing Jackie, Hazel, Catriona and Iain in one photograph.... a rare occurrence nowadays!  20.30 .... I got the photograph that I wanted... all four (soon to be five) of the Lawrie Family of 'Backhill of Inkhorn' (Auchnagatt) in one place!   It has been a most enjoyable day.  We had lunch at the very popular Cupar Garden Centre Restaurant (it was busy) followed by a browse round the garden centre:  the 'troops' did proper browsing:  I had quick browse followed by a catnap in the car.   The middle of the afternoon is my siesta time; and especially so after a good l...

The morning after 'Storm Eowyn' ....

25th  January 2025 (Saturday)     08.30 .....  Well .... that was one frisky wind yesterday Candlelight evening....Unfortunately not a romantic one! afternoon;   from 14.30 to 17.30 it was absolutely ferocious.    And I got some damage at Ivy Cottage;  a ridge tile blew off, slid down the roof and broke the rhone (guttering I thinks it's called now) so that will have to be repaired.  A Red Warning of wind means damage and that's what we have;  not only at Ivy but at other places around Elie and Earlsferry.... and over the whole area of the red Warning.   I only hope no one was injured by stuff being blown around in the wind.    It's the worst wind I have ever experienced in Earlsferry.   I have never felt so useless .... and helpless.    My neighbour Mathew came round to see if I was OK.... which I really appreciated;  I enjoyed talking to him.... it calmed me down a bit.  ...
