Bright morning .....
13th
October 2016 (Thursday)
....09.00 There’s a lot of blue in the
sky this morning... and some bonnie clouds:
it is in fact a bonnie morning, and, though windy, ... from the East, it isn’t as cold as I expected
it to be. I’m going to get the
bike
out this morning; the weather forecast
is for cloud/rain to move in during the afternoon.
Before |
10.30 Well that was a bit o’ luck: I went to get the bike out of the shed,
when it started to spit rain.... this quickly turned into a heavy shower, so
the biking ‘plan’ was shelved, and I went for a run in “Sooper Buggy”
instead: she had been ‘moored up’ at the
door and needed a run. Anyway when I
was out I passed through Kinneuchar, (sometimes Kilconquhar), where the main
street was resurfaced last week. This
is the really clever bit.... when they resurface streets now, the new surface comes with ‘ready made’
holes. Kilconquhar (sometimes Kinneuchar) became a 20
mph zone a few months ago, and one of
the many advantages of 20 mph zones is that you can count holes as you drive
along,.... in the newly resurfaced Kinneuchar Main Street, counting only those with white rings around
them, I got a total of 23. Oh .... I
forgot to mention; the ‘holes’
are water stopcocks, which have to be built up to the new level of road. Why they are all over the road is
surprising; in most villages, and towns,
they are on the pavements.
After! |
22.30 The local History Society ‘talk’ tonight,
by Gordon Douglas, was about life on the ‘Mars’ Training ship, where for 60
years, delinquent and disadvantaged boys, were rehabilitated, rather than being
sent to prison. They were taught
various trades so that they could make their way in the world without having to
resort to crime. At least that was the
theory. The 'Mars boys' were taught
various trades so that they could make their way in the world without having to
resort to crime. At least that was the
theory. The “Mars” was moored off
Newport/Wormit for sixty years, with over 6,000 boys (mostly from the Glasgow
area) passing through her, very naval based, ‘regime. The 'boys' spent six
weeks at Elie during the summer, having made their way to Elie by way of walking .... or, probably most likely ...marching! She, the “Mars”, was scrapped at Ward’s of
Inverkeithing in 1929. This was a talk
with a difference as Gordon Douglas not only talked, but brought his guitar and
sang three songs, dedicated to different ‘components’ of “Mars” life. A very interesting evening.
Mmmmm - this is delicious! |
Tomorrow
night I am taking part in a Quiz in Largoward Hall to raise funds for Largoward
Church. My problem is that, although I
may well know the answer to the question, I may not be able to give said answer
immediately! I need rewiring with new, super fast cable, in fact, rewiring with new
ordinary cable would do. Och well I’ll
enjoy the chat, and the coffee.
