Wet ....
4th January 2023 (Wednesday) 08.30 .... Ye Gods.... we have heavy rain just
now.... so much for the forecast that mentioned ‘light showers’. I won’t be going to the beach for sunrise: however I might try for sunset. “Light rain showers and a moderate breeze” is our forecast....so we should have sunny spells between the showers. Actually it isn’t that cold out....but it is wet: not a good hair day.
20.30 It’s hard to believe it but Kiwi boot
polish is no longer going to be available in UK shops; the owners of the brand
(SC Johnston since 2010) having decided that there is not enough demand for it
in the UK. As the name ‘Kiwi’
suggests, it has a connection with New Zealand,
but was actually developed and produced in Australia in 1906 by William
Ramsay, who migrated to Australia, with his parents and three siblings, in 1878.
He named the polish after the flightless ‘Kiwi’ bird from New Zealand,
the home country of his wife Annie. All
servicemen, who served with the British Armed Forces from WWI to the present
day, will have ‘fond’ memories of Kiwi Parade Gloss boot polish.
I had a successful foray to Leven, on what was a very wet morning.... a perfect kind of day for shopping. Prices continue to go ever upwards and shopping and can no longer be called ‘retail therapy’; it’s now a depressing and boring necessity. The fact that someone is laughing their way to the bank doesn’t help... because all that extra money we’re spending has to end up in someone’s bank account.
However
all was not doom and gloom; I went up
to Alice’s and had a cuppa, a daud o’ cake and a happy hour chatting; then a bowl of soup, more tea and chatting. It was a happy boy that bumbled his way home
about 14.00. By this time the rain had
moved away and we’d even had a couple of ‘sunny spells’.
After putting the messages away , I had a cuppa before loupin’ intae the car to have a
run to the harbour. I met Steve, who was out for an afternoon walk at the harbour. We decided that everything was where it should be before going our separate ways home.
