Busy day at 'The Little Cottage'.....
19th
July 2019 (Friday) 06.30
I’ve got a washing out; all I
have to do
is have a cuppa and I’m ready to rock ‘’ roll. We have a lovely start to the day here,
though there’s an ever increasing chance of showers in the afternoon
evening. By that time the washing will
be dry.... and ready to iron. How do
you iron a double valance? I’ll do
the bits that dangle doon the side o’ the bed! Anyway forget that; there’s a bonnie morrrrrrrning out there
and I’m ready to go out and enjoy it.

Today
is reputedly move in day at ‘The Little Cottage’, the tradesmen having worked until late
last night doing all the last minute jobs to get the house ready for
occupation. Having worked on building
sites, and been here the whole time that the job has been going on I’ll miss
the buzz of workmen around.... a friendly
bunch of blokes.

09.30 I’ve been out; round the villages, then home by way of
Balbuthie Loan and Kinneuchar,.... and it was enjoyable. The only reason I go via Balbuthie Loan is
so that I can enter Kinneuchar from the East side.... Balbuthie Loan etc is not
really interesting; unless the cattle
are near the road. It is a bonnie
morning.... and warm in the sun; cool
when it is behind a cloud.
Everyone
is working hard at ‘The Little Cottage’: there's no sign of a furniture van yet!
This
‘time trial’ day with ‘le Tour’ so I’ll be keeping an eye on that, and
pottering about Ivy for the remainder of the day.
18.00 We have the look of heavy rain coming
in.... in fact it’s raining as I type;
and there’s yellow warning out for heavy thundery rain in parts of
Fife. Oh well... I won’t be going out
on the bike again today. I have stuff
to do on the computer and this evening
looks like it might be the perfect evening for doing it.
My
word .... the roads were busy when I went to Harbour House .... with cars,
cyclists
going in all directions. I enjoyed the break, but with Myra being away,
the ‘boys’ are leaderless George had to spread the scone this
morning. Actually George surprised us
by proving to be extremely adept at spreading said scone, and even more adept at
dividing into eight bite sized pieces.
21.30 It has been a wet evening... but not cold. Our oil tanker, ‘Nautilus’, that ‘we’ are following all the way to Ningbo, is starting to enter the traffic flow that will take her through the Straits of Dover and into the English Channel.

I
have been sorting out some of the photographs that Margaret and Chrissie
Dunsire’s took on their trip to Australia and New Zealand to visit relations. At
that time the family (Dunsire) owned and lived in Balvonie.... the house next
to Ivy Cottage. They, Margaret and
Chrissie, travelled out to the Antipodes in 1932 and home , by way of
Ceylon,
in 1936 on the RMS Orford. Four years
later the Orford, built in 1928 (Vickers) was bombed in an air raid off
Marseilles and beached. 14 people lost
their lives in this action. The hulk
was towed to Savona and broken up in 1947.

This
has been brought to my mind because of the work that’s been done to ‘The Little
Cottage’; where Margaret lived.... although it was called 'Selina Cottage' then.. After their parents died Margaret, Chrissie
and David eventually sold the big house (Balvonie) and moved into separate small houses in ‘The
Ferry’.... that happened in the 1960’s.
