Nice cool morning ....

Image
31st October 2016 (Monday) .... 09.00   This clock change is a nuisance .... I was creepin’ aboot at quarter to six, thinking it was quarter to seven;   I suppose it Elie Bay. means I’ll have a longer day to do things... and up in loads of time to go down to the beach for sunrise .... at 07.18!   There’s a noticeably cool breeze  down on the beach this morning;   however, when I left Ivy I thought the air was warm.... I didn’t even think there was a breeze at all!   There was a bonnie, pre – sunrise, ‘light’ about;  the sunrise event itself was obscured by a cloud bank, with the sun not making an appearance until tem minutes after sunrise time.     It looks like being a bonnie ‘day’ though rain is supposed to move in by evening time.    Elie after sunrise time. 21.00    It did!      The rain arrived at 18.00;    it will clear away overnight and we will awaken to a lovely, cool autumn morning.     It had best not be too cold .... I’m going for a haircut. With the weat

Back to GMT ..... this means I remembered to change the clocks

30th October 2016 (Sunday) .... 09.30    Wellll .... I took advantage of the ‘extra hour’ in bed, hoping that I’d waken up to a bright and sunny day.... but nope:  KIlconquhar Church - lit by the setting sun. we have a drab looking, ‘grey and damp’ start to the day, however it does looks like it could brighten up by midday.    Right now we have light rain.... but it is warm .... for the time of year.     The amazing thing is that I remembered to change the clocks last night;  usually I, inadvertently, work on ‘Ivy Cottage’ time for a couple of days.    In “Ivy Cottage” time days don’t have names... they are just, daylight... and not daylight!  Balcarres Estate - Colinsburgh.     21.00     It has been a ‘nae bad’ day as far as the weather went;  the early light rain meandered orf to annoy someone else, and we ended up with ‘sunny spells’.   Jimmy and I went along to Leven in the morning for a cuppa in Sainsbury’s but it was ‘mobbed’;   I’ve never seen Sainsbury’s cafe as busy

Cleaning out filing cabinet ....

29th October 2016 (Saturday) ....    10.00   The sun is occasionally managing to burn holes in a generally overcast sky, so we might have some ‘sunny spells’ later;   but it looks like being a mostly grey day. Maggie, Gordon Brown and Henry McLeish. I went out to the end of the sewage pipe (which it isn’t) at low tide, but with the weather being on the ‘dour side of drab’, it wasn’t inspiring out there.     Having said that I like looking at the villages from a different angle, though they looks better from a boat at high tide.... then you have reflections. 22.30    It did turn out to be ‘mostly a grey day’... but not a cold one.   I spent most of the day going through the stuff in Maggie’s filing cabinet;  the waste paper bucket (the ‘grey’ bucket) is nearly full so I had to stop.    It....the paper waste does not go out until the 11th November.     The filing cabinet was one of those long slow jobs, because I stopped to look at and read stuff:   Maggie threw nothing of imp

Not a bonnie sunrise .....

28th October 2016 (Friday) .... 09.00     ‘The Boy’ has a washing going through the machine;   because we have a ‘drying day ahead’.    There’s a nice South Sunrise this morning! Westerly breeze, (it’s slightly cooler than yesterday), and we are going have ‘bright and sunny’ by midday:  and, I’m feeling ‘perky’ this morning. I’ve had my early morning walk, now I suppose I should do some ‘work’.   The garden looks dry;  if it is dry, I’m going to potter about out there;  there’s always ‘stuff’ needing pruned etc.    The roses are still flowering ..... which is braw, but I think I should really prune them back for the ‘winter’. 21.30    The gardening I set out to do, ended up with me picking the apples and making an Eve’s Pudding with them.    This is the first time the tree has produced enough fruit to do anything with;   the fact that it produced 24 apples this year has saved it from an early demise,....  and being ‘turned’ into walking sticks.   There are three ‘branches’,

"Red sky in the morning etc" .......

Image
27th October 2016 (Thursday) ....     09.30     After a brilliant red sunrise I suppose we should look forward to some rough weather;  “red sky in the morning A 'cosy' Eastern sky. etc”..... however the weather forecast isn’t that bad for the East of Fife;   stronger wind, but mostly dry... and warmer.    Anyway, forget the bad omen stuff .... anyone being down on the beach at sunrise this morning was well rewarded by a bonnie, albeit fiery, sky as the sun appeared above the Eastern horizon.      21.00    The bonniest time of day was undoubtedly sunrise time;   most of the remainder of ‘today’ was ‘drab’, certainly when compared to the sunrise we had.    But, though the weather was what we could expect at this time of year, the temperature was not;  it was ‘warm, even though the wind was F5 most of the time.    I even saw a Red Admiral butterfly fluttering around the garden.... searching for somewhere to hibernate I imagine. I decided to take a turn up to Balcarres

Change of wind direction from ESE to WSW .... and it's colder ....

Image
26th October 2016 (Wednesday) ....   09.00     Hmmmm ... it’s breezy (WSW), and mostly overcast;   however there is the occasional blue patch in the general greyness, so it should brighten up later.     Although I have been creepin’ aboot Sunshine on Methil outside in the garden, I haven’t been down to the beach so far this morning, but that will be remedied after I ‘update’ the Hutte:  and after I have another cuppa.    Oh that reminds me.... my Victoria Sponge looks more like two giant Digestive biscuits with jam and cream between them:  it, (the VS), is kind of ‘skinny’.... but really tasty.    I overdid the baking by 10 minutes.   I wouldn’t say it was ‘burnt’ ... more a darker shade of brown than it should have been. 21.00     With the wind being F4 from the WNW it was cold out walking this morning.    I only did the ‘Chapel Green Circuit’ which takes me three quarters of an hour floundering around the way I do;   I can do it in quarter of an hour.   It was fine coming hom

Peace and tranquility ....

Image
25th October 2016 (Tuesday) ...10.30    You will all know that, regardless of what weather we have, I love our corner of Mother Earth:   Well today, in ‘our Lady's Tower, Elie. corner of Mother Earth’, we have a beautiful “bright and sunny” morning, so the ‘Auld Place’ is looking wholly blissful.   I went out to the Lady’s Tower,  and the Lighthouse (I had been at the Surgery so that “Laurie” the Nurse could extract some blood), for a wee change of scenery.    No matter which direction I looked  I saw ‘peace and tranquility’, something sadly lacking in too many parts of our lovely Planet.    I felt blessed, and at peace ...  even with myself! 22.30      I don’t know what it is with me and pills;   all I do know is that I am ‘hyper’.   Some folk say that pills make them sleepy.... not this ‘boy’, I am in the mood to do a spot of housework.    The last time I felt like this, I ended up dusting the bookshelves;  and they are attracting me again.   Bookshelves it will be....

Nice morning ... but cooler than of late

Image
24th October 2016 (Monday) ....    09.30    This is more like it .... there’s a mostly, blue sky this morning;   however there are big shower clouds here and there, Sunrise time at Elie  and the, light, wind is from the Northeast and therefore cool;  but a bonnie start to the day.    I have a washing going through the machine so I don’t want rain. I went down to the harbour (in the car) to watch the sunrise over the lighthouse;   it didn’t turn out to be “an all over the sky” sunrise, but it was bonnie nonetheless.    It was cold down at the harbour .... then again, it always is. 21.30     There were three sets of temporary traffic lights between ‘The Royal Burgh’ and Leven this morning:  Jimmy and I went to Leven to get some stuff at Sainsbury’s, and had to wait at all three sets.    We really just wanted a run to somewhere, and I Elie wanted Cranberry Juice to treat the urine infection.    At the Doctor’s this afternoon I discovered that I never had an infection;  the

Jimmy's Family birthday celebration .... .....

Image
23rd October 2016 (Sunday) .... 10.30    There’s a ‘chill’ in the air this Four minutes past eight o'clock this morning. morning, but it is a lovely day for being out and about.    I went down to the beach to see watch sunrise, and have a quiet stroll along the water’s edge, before breakfast.    There were a couple of folk out with their dogs, and a lone jogger hit the beach ‘at speed’ as I was coming off it.   The weather forecast is a bit on the ‘iffy side of good’;   we could get showers later. 21.30    As ‘predicted’ by the weather forecasters, the weather has been showery on and off most of today.... and it’s also cool.    But the weather didn’t matter to Jimmy and me:   Jimmy’s Family had organised a ‘Birthday Party’ at Audrey’s and John’s house in Kinneuchar;   Audrey and John being Jimmy’s daughter, and son in law.    June, Ronnie, Ian, Gill and Shirley, (and the dogs) completed the Family.    Tom, Gill’s ‘Dad’, and I were there to Family group. torment Jimmy.

Heavy showers early morning .....

Image
The reddish spot to the left of the Granary is the sun rising. 22nd October 2016 (Saturday) .... 09.30     The, “frequent heavy shower’s” that we have just now are forecast to peter out about midday .... to be followed by ‘bright and sunny’.     I managed to get caught in a ‘frequent heavy shower’ when down on the beach, .... but I got back to Ivy before it reached ‘heavy’. Sunrise  was at 08.00 this morning, the only indication at that time was a small red spot,  by the Lady’s Tower;   not exactly stunning, but promising better for later.     I’ll go out for a walk after breakfast... if the showers are less frequent;   there’s an interesting sky that needs 'recording'.  21.00     The villages continue to be ‘busy’ with holiday makers;  schools having different dates for the mid- term holiday, means an extended holiday season for Elie and Earlsferry, .... and other places too.     The weather has been a ‘mixed lot’ today;  Entrance to a 'Secret Garden'. i

Peaceful ....

21st October 2016 (Friday)    10.00 .... it is a really nice, quiet morning;   what little wind there is from the West, so it is not cold.     At this time the sky is overcast, but the sun will Earlsferry break through later:   we should end up with another lovely, sunny afternoon.  For some inexplicable reason I feel like doing ‘work stuff’ .... so I swept the leaves off the pavement, and street outside Ivy.... and the next door houses.    I blame the ‘pills’ .... not for the leaves;   for me feeling like doing this!    Bizarrely I actually felt ‘happily satisfied’ after doing it:   sometimes I wonder about ‘me’.    Now I’m thinking I should do the whole village.   Yep ... I need a cuppa! 21.30     Instead of my more normal, ‘thinking about working’, I‘ve been ‘working without thinking’.... and enjoying it.    There is no doubting it;  this has got to be a ‘side effect’ of the ‘pills’.   A daud o’ paper did come with the pills but I haven’t read it...all I know is that they

Absolutely gorgeous 'Indian Summer' afternoon .... ....

Image
20th October 2016 (Thursday) .... 09.00    The sky is overcast at present, but we have been ‘promised’ sunshine by midday;  however,  there is a light Northwest Jimmy at the Drop in Cafe today breeze, that is keeping the temperature down;   it might be warm, in the sunshine, and out of the breeze.    We have the ‘Drop in Cafe’ to look forward to in the afternoon;   until then, as this is ‘broon’ bucket week, I will fill up the ‘bucket’ with a few of the weeds that are scattering their seeds around  the fertile Ivy garden soil.  21.30      A light shower passed over when I was down on the beach this morning, but it only added to the beauty of the place;   even shower clouds take on a ‘bonnie’ look when they’re over Elie and Earlsferry.    After the sun broke through we ended up with a dazzling day, and the villages have been busy, with folk enjoying this spell of good weather, and the beauty that is Elie and Earlsferry.    Hopefully tomorrow’s weather will turn out to be a re

Overcast but bonnie with it ....

Image
19th October 2016 (Wednesday) .... 09.00     The weather forecast was for ‘bright and sunny’ and this is what we have:  it’s a beautiful, fresh morning, Traffic lights on Ferry Road? ... only for a couple of hours.  definitely a morning for being active.    My ‘plan’ is to go for the paper,  then down to the harbour, for a wee walk around:   after that I think I’ll do some work around Ivy.  21.30    For some reason I did in fact do some work around Ivy ... wonders will never cease.    The weather remained mostly overcast, but it wasn’t cold,....  what wind we had was light:   Having said that the temperature is supposed to drop overnight, with -3c up in the Highland glens.    They will wake up to a beautiful crisp morning ... we will wake up to a cold one. Jimmy came along in the afternoon;  he’s counting down the days until his 90th birthday next Tuesday, the 25th.    We had a reminiscing session this afternoon, before we went up to Elie then down to the Harbour for a walk

Feeling 'medium frisky' .....

Image
18th October 2016 (Tuesday) ..... 10.00      Happy happy  ‘me’ again .... feeling ‘medium frisky’.    after much deliberation over the early evening I decided to Elie Harbour  phone NHS 24, because I felt that I needed a catheter.    I was impressed with their service, and how they give you options, depending of how serious you felt your condition was.    The outcome of it all was a nurse came out, to fit a catheter.    As soon as she had done the ‘plumbing’ I felt instant relief.    Stacy, (the Nurse) was surprised at the litre bag filling in less than 5 minutes:   no wonder I was ‘uncomfortable’ and in pain she said;  had I not phoned I’d most like have had to go into hospital this morning.    Like I said ‘happy happy’ ‘me’....  and end of the medical stuff. We have an gorgeous day here .... “bright and sunny” with a lovely drying breeze;   which is hand because I have a washing going through at this time.    I’d better get it Elie harbour out, on the line 'as soon a
