Cool breeze off the sea ....

Image
31st May 2020 (Sunday)    06.00 .... there’s almost a wall to wall blue sky Threat of haar coming in from the North Sea. this morning but there is also a cool breeze from the southeast which will take a few degrees off the temperature.... a bonnie day but cool, with the chance of haar coming in later.     I’m having a cuppa before going out on the bike. 09.00    Well I’ve been out on the hike (for an hour and a half) and, although it’s a bonnie morning it is cold exposed to the wind. ... and the haar isn’t far away.   The sun will get rid of the haar but it will come back in the afternoon/evening.      I only went round the villages stopping to get my paper at the paper shop on the way.... and taking photos from my favourite spots all the way round.     We have/had a Whooper swan on the harbour beach.... having a rest before flying on north.   It’s a pity he hadn’t flown another mile and stopped o...

Warm and sunny ....

30th May 2020 (Saturday)      06.30 ....   it’s a nice morning but there is a Social distancing marked out - a sign of the times. breeze from the northeast so no mirror like water this morning.   Although it is warm already  it isn’t going to be as hot as yesterday but, with the UV levels being ‘high’, it is a sun cream day. 08.00     There’s a nice cool air today....definitely a morning for me pottering around the garden.     I’ve been for the paper and had a short run down towards the harbour but that was all;   I might go out later depending on how busy the roads are.    Things are ‘almost back to normal’ with the beach being busy yesterday, and will be again today with the forecast being ‘good’:   the roads are definitely busier.     Now that I have milk I can have breakfast. Mixed up clouds this morning. 16.30     With a Force 4-5 wind coming of...

Best morning so far ....

29th May 2020 (Friday)      10.30 .... This is the best morning we’ve had so Elie harbour this morning. far this year;   it’s sunny and warm/hot with   hardly a breath of wind.... a perfect day for.... for? ... not working.... perfect for taking a few ‘reflection’ photographs.    I did.    139 to be précis.     I’ve been round the villages, stopped for the paper, and came home through Elie Estate;   I think I will lie low for the remainder of the day ‘cos it’s looking like being a hot day.... ‘mauchless’ even.    There is a lot of pollen about. 14.00     It’s a cosy day right enough .... and I have been either in the garden or in The Hutte ... resting.     It’s too warm to do much else.    I notice that the breeze is now from the Easterly direction   .... that should cool the air down a bit.     I did think of going out on the bike later t...

28th May 2020 (Thursday)       06.30 .... I’ve been up to Chapel Green (on Elie harbour beach .... from the Ship Inn outside seating area. the bike) hoping to find the cliffs reflected on mirror like water but there’s just enough of a breeze to ruffle the surface .... so nae reflections.     However we do have a bonnie start to the day even though the sky is mostly cloudy at this time (nearly always is) .... but the sun will sort that out in a couple of hours.    I’ve stopped at Ivy for a cuppa before going up to Elie. 14.00     This is awfie;   it’s 24c in the garden (shade temperature) .... far too hot to do any work!     Not that I intended working .... but if I had I’d have had to force myself to stop.    The Hutte afternoon coffee morning has been rescheduled to take place inside the lovely coolness that is Ivy Cottage very shortly .... in fact I am going spread the last two scones ...

Warm and sunny ....

27th May 2020 (Wednesday)     06.30.... right now the sky is overcast but Elie Bay. once the sun gets going that should clear;   the air is warm air on a light westerly breeze.    Looks like being another nice day.     I had a good night’s sleep but this is going to be a ‘rest day’ after the yesterday’s ‘work’ session.     I need milk so I’ll take the car to go for the paper then go out on the bike later in the morning. 10.00      It's a beautiful morning;    sunny and warm.     I’ve been for the paper(s) and milk.... then had a walk to the beach for a change of scenery.    The beach was quiet at that time of the morning though there were footprints below high water mark a good sign that the early morning joggers and dog walkers had been there. I have done some work this morning (sorting out cupboards) and will do some more.... but the primary aim for today is...

Feeling romantic ....

Positive things happening at the harbour. 8.30     It is a lovely morning but there is a wee bit of wind chill.... though it isn’t cold.     I went for the paper and when I saw that we had a another three boats in the harbour I had to go down there, even if it did mean I’d have to wade through the sand at the end of the Toft.    I did.    It’s good to see signs the gradually increasing signs of life at the harbour;   I wonder when the yachts will go in?     Hopefully soon. My amended plan is to sort out the cupboard under the boiler;   it appear to be full of Maggie’s cleaning stuff (dusters and suchlike).     I shall keep anything that is vital (not much) and bung the rest into a bag (or two) then into the blue bucket. I saw Dominic Cummings make his statement yesterday afternoon;  and felt depressed by the end of it.   And still do.   There’s not much hope for...

Feeling workshy .....

26th May 2020 (Tuesday)        06.30 ....   I am seriously thinking of spending the day in the garden.... I might even pick a weed or two.    We have a nice morning but slightly breezier than I thought it would be at this time;     I had an idea it would be a ’reflections’ kind of start to the day with the water like a mirror.     Not to worry where we live is photogenic no matter what the weather.

Beautiful calm morning....

25th May 2020 (Monday)    06.30 .... Beautiful start to what is forecast to Exercise is enjoyable where we live.... even at 06.30. be a ‘wall to wall bloo’ sky day;   I am having a cuppa before going out for the paper.    This is a ‘play day’;  after the gales of wind we all need one.   10.00     It is an absolute cracker of a morning.    I’ve been round the villages, stopped at the ‘paper shop’ for the paper (and rolls), then came home by way of the estate.    I am now well ready for breakfast;    after I hang out the washing. 15.00      It has been a hectic morning;  Charlie Pryde arrived to fix the central heating unit (a blocked pipe, and is coming back to remove the old gas fire in the living room.   It is being replaced with an electric, “wood burning look”, fire:  I did think of getting a new gas fire but gas is on the way ‘out’ so...

Otaki earthquake (NZ) .... ....

24th May 2020 (Sunday)       07.00 .... There’s a brisk breeze and Harbour road. “precipitation is not expected” ;   it much calmer that’s for sure, but I’m not sure about the precipitation .... some of the clouds bumbling over are awfie dark.     I’ll have a cuppa then go for the paper .... by that time I’ll know if the dark clouds are going to ‘precipitate’, or just look threatening. 09.00     I’ve been out on the bike for the paper and nearly down to the harbour; but there’s a heap of sand on the road at the end of the Toft and I couldn’t be bothered wading through it.     It’s a nice morning and much calmer than it was yesterday;    I should get out on the bike after morning coffee;   I’m not sure where I’ll go I need some exercise. Elie Estate. 19.00     It has been a bonnie day but breezier than I thought it would be;   however I did get out in the afte...

Windy with squally showers

Image
23rd May 2020 (Saturday)      06.30 ....   My word we have had one wild Windy with rain now and again - not pleasant;  but interesting. night and it’s even going to be wilder for most of today;   with the wind finally slackening off later in the afternoon.    For some reason Braemar, one of the cruise ships moored off Aberlady Bay, sailed out of the Firth yesterday evening and is now “12 NM out of the Firth of Forth” East of May Island.    Strange   manoeuvre.      It has been wild overnight and we now have rain blowing through in the wind ;   the wind is F8 in Largo Bay just now, so not a nice morning at all.  not a pleasant morning at all.    I should get all the computer work finished today. 08.00     Bad hair day?..... it’s worse than that;   even my eyebrows are   lookin’ wild.     I could trim them though.... that’s another wee job ...

Fantastical clouds ....

Image
22nd May 2020 (Friday)         08.30 .... it’s breezy this morning and we had Largo Bay. spits and spots of rain in the wind at times;   however the clouds were fantastical so I didn’t notice the spits of rain.   The wind is F4 out in Largo Bay just now but is forecast to freshen and reach F6 -8 later.    It is going to be really windy tomorrow.... with gusts up to 54mph.... F9.    I’ve been for the paper and down to the harbour:   i very much doubt if I’ll take the bike out today but I shall go for a walk sometime. 16.30    It has been a windy afternoon;  the wind is F7 out in the Firth,  info from ‘Ocean Greatwhite’ who is trundling out of the Forth, escorted by Skandi Bergen (off shore supply vessel).   They are on their way to Tenerife.... well Skandi Bergen is.... Ocean Greatwhite’s  eventual destination is ‘Granadilla’ wherever that is.   A ‘granadilla’ is an ...

21st May 2020 (Thursday)      10.00.... I’ve been round the villages and Peaceful morning.... even the turbines are content. bought my paper (and Private Eye), so now I am ready for morning coffee....   and a browse of the papers.    The bike battery is on charge and, if the weather is fine in the afternoon I might go for another bumble around.     We’ve had a bonnie morning but I could see heavy showers clouds towards the West of Fife and Edinburgh so I guess there’s a chance we could catch the edge of one.    I think the showers are forecast to peter out by the afternoon.   Orf to make a mug of coffee. 18.00     The heavy showers never touched us but there was one as near as Leven;    I know this ‘cos my niece Lesley got ‘drookit’ when out on her exercise walk.    I charged the bike battery up but didn’t go out on it as I ended up filling the ‘broon’ bucket with garden trimmings....

Balcarres Estate ....

Image
20th May 2020 (Wednesday)       09.30 .... it’s   not a ‘wall to wall’ blue sky Arthur's Seat (Edinburgh) from Elie Harbour. but it isn’t far off it;    it looks like we could be in for a ‘sunny and warm’ day.... so, apply the sun cream   and let’s all enjoy the sun.    I’ve been to the ‘paper shop’ and the harbour:   at that time our side of the Firth was well overcast, with the sun shining brightly along the south side and Edinburgh.       There’s an old saying that goes .... “a clear sooth drooned the plooman” ....   meaning there’s a ‘chance of precipitation’ in the next 24 hours.   In Bonnie Scotland that may well be the case.  My ‘plan’ is to have ‘morning coffee’ then get the bike out;   I haven’t finally decided where to go yet but have the desire to aim for Balcarres.     I’m off to find the sun cream.   Miranda (camera in case you have for...
