Oh my word .... it's cauld .....

30th June 2016 (Thursday) .... 09.30    Although cool, and rather cloudy, it is dry, and I’m going to hang out a washing;   so it isn’t going to rain!    I’ve been 'M' looking at the view along to the ‘Paper Shop’, on the bike;   now the plan is to go to Leven;   ‘M’ wants to browse the Charity Shops for wool, .... I’ll see if I can find some Suzanne Gregory ‘books’.     We have the ‘Drop in Cafe’ in the afternoon... this is the last one until September;   the start of the Autumn/Winter session. 22.30    All the above ‘shopping missions’ were accomplished;   plus a few extras from Bayne’s the Baker.... including “Soo’s lugs”.    We then went to Sainsbury’s for coffee where we met, and were joined, by Myra and Jim, who were also at Leven on a shopping trip. We had the ‘Drop in Cafe’ this afternoon, .... rumour went round the village that we were going to have ‘goodies’, and ‘goodies’ we had:   strawberry tarts, cake, pancakes.... “Puku” has been well spoilt today.   Th

Cool morning .....

29th June 2016 (Wednesday)  ..... 08.30    After a bright, and breezy, start to the morning, the sky is beginning to cloud over, and rain is forecast to arrive, sometime 'M' at Kellie Castle in the afternoon;   a re-run of yesterday’s weather.     It feels cooler this morning... almost autumnal, .... but a nice morning for a daunder .   I’m going to pick up ‘M’ in a wee while;  that reminds me I meant to rattle round with the Hoover etc.   Och .... I’ll forget about the ‘ooverin’ etc, and put the kettle ‘on’.     23.30      Oh my word .... the ‘boy’ (that’s me) is going to be late in bed tonight..... this has been a busy busy day.    ‘M’ and I went up to Kellie Castle garden in the morning;   always a nice place for a quiet meander round a beautiful ...  and completely different from Ivy .... garden.     ‘M’ was absolutely starving by the time we’d finished the garden ‘thing’ so we had lunch in the Cafe.... which included a piece of Millionaires shortbread.     The “mill

Autumnal feel in the early morning air ....

Image
28th June 2016 (Tuesday) .... 08.30        I do believe that I detected a slight autumnal touch in the ‘air’ this morning... but that was at 06.00.    That said, we do have another lovely, “bright and breezy” morning, and it will be warm when the sun this morning .... gets up a bit.     I’m ‘tied’ to Ivy until the Worcester engineer arrives to service the boiler;   which could be any time up until 18.00.     This isn’t a ‘bad’ thing, ‘cos ‘M’ is coming, .... = ‘slight panic mode’:   got some ‘man cave’ stuff to ‘build’ into tidy heaps!   I forgot that England were playing, football, last night .... actually, when I read the reports it appears that they didn’t.    Play football i.e.!   They’re out of Europe, in more ways than one.    We Scots know the feeling.    I’d better ‘go’ and do things .... and the first thing that needs doing is? ... switch on the kettle! 22.30     The ‘Boiler Man’ arrived at 11.00, and was finished by 11.30.      The Boiler man had just left when

Bright and breezy morning ....

27th June 2016 (Monday) .....  08.30     We have a ‘bright and breezy’ start to the day, and it is forecast to be so for most of today.    I went out to the front gate at Yep ....  the place to 'be' this morning! 04.00 (in my dressing gown)  but, although it was bright enough, it was very windy so I didn’t go out on the bike:   in fact I had a look at the News, then went back to bed, and eventually got myself ‘up and running’ at 06.30. My ‘mission’ this morning is to take ‘Sooper Buggy’ along to St Monans;   then get the bus back to Elie.    I’ll then wander home via the beach, then do some work related stuff.      21.00     ‘Bright and breezy’ was the weather forecast... and ‘bright and breezy’ it has been;   a really bonnie day.   I had a nice walk along the beach .... a surprisingly busy beach, considering it’s Monday .... on my way home from delivering ‘Sooper Buggy’ to St Monans.    Back at Ivy I did some housework, got the boiler cupboard ready for the engineer

Up and' running'(?) early this morning .....

26th June 2016 (Sunday) .... 09.00    It’s a beautiful morning, and I have been ‘out and about’ since 05.10.    When I looked out at 04.40 I thought “you intended getting ‘up’ early this morning... this is early!”    So I showered, had a quick Elie harbour  cuppa and was out on the bike, and up at Chapel Green by 05.20.   Since then I have photographed my way round the villages, and home via the ‘Elie road’ and ‘Ferry Road’.     I was back in Ivy, well ready for breakfast at 06.40.    I wasn’t the only person out at that time ... there was a couple sitting on one of the seats on Flagpole Hill at the harbour, and two men went fishing... in a motor boat.    There was also someone fishing off the lighthouse rocks.        ‘Cath’ was setting up the ‘Paper Shop’ outside ‘display’ when I passed ... that would be at 06.15.... I know this because I took a photo of the church, and the clock says 06.15.   Busy old place is Elie and Earlsferry.    I’ll go up for a paper after I update the Hut

Damp morning .....

Image
25th June 2016 (Saturday)..... 09.00     We’ve had rain overnight, and, though not raining now, it’s overcast .... however there are breaks beginning to show in Earlsferry the clouds:  it means we’ll probably end up with showers later.    Oh ... the wind is from the East!    Funnily enough, in spite of the wind coming from the east, I’m feeling frolicsome;   I’ll bike down to the harbour later... once I see how the weather is going;    I’m rather fond of a blue sky, and nae rain.    That said, if it does turn showery later, there could be some nice clouds around. 21.30     Jings I never cease to surprise ‘me’.    Last night I put the waste paper bucket out onto the pavement:   Today I spent until 14.00 bemoaning the fact that all the other buckets in the street had been emptied, but not mine.     It was about this time that it dawned on me that ‘today’ was Saturday.... and not Friday.    Friday is ‘bucket’ day.    Luckily the bucket is only half full, so will be okay until the

'Leave' wins the referendum ...

24th June 2016 (Friday) ....  the weather is ‘bright and sunny’ this morning.... a really bonnie morning for being ‘out and about’.     I can’t do ‘out and Bonnie Morning  about’ until I get my bike fixed;  that is the priority ‘job’ for today.    Wellll ..... the result of the referendum is a bit of a surprise, but this is ‘democracy’, at work, so we’ll have to get on with it.    One ‘pundit’, on the television this morning, said that we’re 10% worse orf already, because of the fall in value of the pound against other currencies.      We have an interesting few years ahead of us methinks..... especially with Scotland, Northern Ireland, and London  voting to ‘Remain’!    Must go ‘slight flap on’ this morning .... nothing do with the referendum result.... got a bike to fix. 22.00      Our beach looks the same today... so the referendum has made nae difference to one of the most important places in Europe!    It was lovely down there this morning, Elie Bay with Merganser in

European Referendum day UK ......

23rd June 2016 (Thursday) .... 16.00     Hmmmmm ... we’ve had a lovely day.... sunny and warm, though the wind did go round to the east in the afternoon.     ‘M’ and I went to Leven in the morning;  and noticed that Sooper Buggy was making a Margaret admiring the Dunblane rose noise like two or three ‘Harley’s’ when we were leaving Sainsbury’s.    She’s booked into St Monans to have the exhaust fixed on Monday.... until then she will be ‘moored up’.    That disnae look right.    It looks like its ‘M’ having her exhaust fixed, and being ‘moored up .... but it isn’t, it’s the car!   We’d planned to go bowling, but ended up flapping along to St Minnins to get the car booked in;   and ended up dropping in to the ‘Drop in Cafe’ on the way home.    ‘M’ did a lot of chatting to different folk at the ‘Cafe’ so the afternoon wasn’t wasted. 22.00     Wellll .... I can’t moan about the weather;   it has been a really bonnie day... ‘sunny and warm’.     ‘M’ didn’t have ‘goose pimples’ today

'M's birthday .....

Image
22nd June 2016 (Wednesday)  ... 08.30     “Happy Birthday to ‘M’ .... happy birthday to youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!      ‘M’ will be 2,430,000,000 seconds old sometime today!”    Now that is really auld! We have a bonnie morning for pottering about, doing birthday things.    There are Elie harbour clouds around, which may grow into interesting shower clouds in the afternoon;   we won’t get the showers!   I hope. I’d better get a move on ... I’m picking Margaret (birthday title) up from St Minnins in a wee while;   need to do the ‘ooverin’ and dustin’ thing. 23.59    This has been a busy busy day;   and the bike has still got a puncture.     ‘M’, Lexie and I went up, to Colinsburgh for the ‘lite lunch’;  which was considerably more than ‘lite’....soup and rhubarb crumble for me, ... soup, followed by  strawberries and ice cream for ‘M’.   After we got back to Ivy I had an attack of ‘the mauchless’... it was so hot!    ‘M’ was Margaret covered in goose pimples because she

Wet start to the morning ......

21st June 2016 (Tuesday) .... 08.30    Apart from the fact that it’s raining we have a bonnie morning;   however, the rain will clear away and it will be summer.    I don’t like to think that yesterday was summer!    Earlier, I’d got as far as ‘The Boss’s Earlsferry from the harbour seat’, on the bike, when the rain started;   I’d meant to go down to the harbour too, but  .... I’m back in Ivy with the kettle in the ‘on’ position, contemplating doing some housework  until this rainy spell passes over. 23.30     The early rain petered out in ‘nae time’ leaving us with a bonnie summer’s day.   There were attractive looking clouds all around us, but the showers never came our way. In the morning I did do some housework, but as soon as the sun broke through in earnest, I went up to Elie, and down to the harbour.    I nearly always go to Elie via ‘the Breakwater’ because that’s a good ‘viewpoint’.     The tide was way out, and I noticed that it had left a nice big pool ,and, with t

Summer Solstice.... and strawberry moon

Image
20th June 2016 (Monday) ...   “Happy Summer Solstice to everyone”!     This is the longest day ... sunrise in Elie and Earlsferry, was at 04.23 and sunset is at 22.03.   Not only is it the Summer Solstice, we also have, on the same date, a Strawberry Full Moon this year.... a rare event in the astronomical calendar, the last Kincraig cliffs this morning time this happened was in 1967.     The “Strawberry Moon” was so named by the North American Indians, and indicates the start of the strawberry season.... so “Happy Strawberry Season” too!     Not only that, we have a west wind for the first time in weeks months, so there’s much ‘happenings’ happening today!      I think this should be a ‘play’ day for the ‘Boy’.     10.00     I’ve been up for a wee ‘play’ around the rocks up at Chapel Ness;   although windy it’s a pleasant warm westerly ....so nice ‘out’.    I saw a heavy shower rattling it’s way along the Balcarres Ridge, towards Arncroach,  but it missed us;   that might be h

19th June 2016 (Sunday) .... 11.00    Oh this is heat is awfie...we need the nice wet, cool days, of a normal Scottish summer!    I’m overwhelmed with unaccustomed hotness.     From that you will have deduced that we have  lovely, humid , abnormal West Wemyss harbour Scottish weather this morning;   however we do not need to despair .... there are high, thin clouds beginning to skin over the sky so I do believe we shall have relief, in the shape of lovely, heavy rain clouds, which will deposit, their desirable, cooling innards, on us later on today!    Yes we have a bonnie morning ... I’m going to do some work before the rain arrives! 20.30    My day started late ....I  overslept  by about 3 hours, and didn’t get activated until 08.50.    For some strange reason I managed to do the jobs I’d planned on doing, but only by skipping going to the kirk!     That was ‘naughty’ .... ‘cos it was a ‘coffee after the Service’ Sunday!    However I don’t feel too bad about this as I did ge

Not raining .....

18th June 2016 (Saturday) ...09.00    Our Weather is incredible .... when I first went outside this morning (06.45), the sky was blue with a touch of grey in the Kilconquhar northwest;   two hours later it, the sky, was grey with a touch of blue in the Southeast corner!     However I don’t think rain is forecast;  in fact I think the sun has to break through by midday.     I’ve been out on the bike... the usual journey, along for a paper, and back home via the Estate;   it was chillier on the hands than I thought it would be, but enjoyable after a couple of not very active days, as far as exercising goes.      I’ll bike along to the Coffee Morning, and do an extended circuit on the way home.       16.30     The Both the Coffee Morning, and the weather have been excellent.... the weather still is.     I had tea this morning, having had coffee to get me started when I ‘surfaced’.     The sky was still overcast when I left the ‘CM’ but you could see it was breaking up.    In wen

Dreich morning .....

17th June 2017 (Friday) .... 08.30   .... we have another grey and wet morning...  not the kind of weather that has the ‘get up and go’ feel to it.    Then again, Earlsferry from the 3rd tee if this happened somewhere in Africa, where they hadn’t seen wetness for nigh on a year, the locals would get really really excited;   even more excited than we would  be when/if we see the sun!   At least we don’t have to worry about being thirsty! I haven’t been ‘out’ further than the gate.. when I put out the ‘broon’ bucket .... .....  and I didn’t get overly animated doing that.    There are paler bits appearing in the general greyness:  it’s either that, or I’m going to have a migraine!     Orf to have a cuppa then I’ll get ready for a meeting up at Kinneuchar. 21.30    The weather has been fairly miserable, most of the time, today;  however it is slightly brighter at this time, and the weather forecast for tomorrow is much better ... so much so that it might be ‘summer time’.... as
